For the past 10 years I have been driving past the huge billboard that advertises cold beer, live music and every meal is a banquet and never called in. I did today and I can't believe what I have been missing all this time.
I hang my head in shame! I kid you not!
Hosts Helen, Darryl and son Dave, are 3 of the rarest dinky di beautiful people you could ever wish to meet. It is obvious their passions are people, food, music and fun. Because that is what they have been providing for the last 15 years, brilliantly, I might add. (I heard that Darryl is very handy on the harmonica, too!)
How is this for a story. The Silky Oak Tea Gardens were originally named after the beautiful native Silky Oak tree that grew in the garden. When 2 years ago lighting struck and dropped this majestic tree into splinters, they crafted the bar and restaurant features from the beautiful timber.
I know I am snap happy, but everywhere you look you find another stunning piece of this historic tree. I am just gobsmacked. This place is amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed a toasted ham & cheese sandwich and a cup of tea by a warm open fire and listened to the live band tuning up. We will be returning for some freshly baked scones, a beer and a much excitingly anticipated listen to the band next Sunday. They even do weddings, can you believe?
Any way, do yourself a favour and call in on your way to Rainbow Beach or check them out on their website http://www.silkyoakteagardens.com/
